CDC: Public pools not as clean as you think

By:

Just in time for pools to open across the state, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have come out with a new study about what’s lurking in that water.

According to the CDC report, water sampled from 161 pools around the Atlanta area found 58 percent showed signs of E. Coli, which is the bacteria most commonly associated with fecal matter.

Diapered babies and children who are not properly toilet trained can easily introduce poop into the water, the report stated.

Children are not alone as culprits.

Adults are also at fault, mainly those who do not shower with soap before entering the pool and bring traces of fecal matter with them.

Number two isn’t the only problem.

Some fear more than fee increase in new driver’s license law

OKLAHOMA CITY – The price you pay for a driver’s license is about to go up.

Lawmakers said the $12 increase is the first in 10 years.

Some said they fear they will be paying more than just money with the increase.

Officials said the fee increase will help generate about $8.7 million to help with long lines at facilities by hiring more clerks and equipment for law enforcement.

Attorney David Slane said, “I’m just concerned that that may be exactly what this funding is being used for or at least a part of it.”

Slane is referring to 2007 Senate Bill 464 that states “the state of Oklahoma shall not participate in the implementation of the Real ID Act of 2005.”

He said he is concerned that part of this new funding may be a way to sneak in what he said is a serious violation of privacy.

WEATHER: Severe weather expected again Monday

All tornado warnings have expired for Oklahoma.

The 4Warn Storm Team is predicting a good possibility of more severe weather Monday.

Governor Mary Fallin has declared a state of emergency for 16 Okla. counties.

Bethel Acres and Little Ax have canceled classes for Monday after tornadoes.

The severe threat continues Monday with a moderate risk of severe weather for central and eastern Okla.

IYC: Scheming contractor can’t escape our camera

OKLAHOMA CITY – Shane Thomas arrived at court a free man, but he left in handcuffs.

Thomas, a contractor, is accused of defrauding customers and stiffing subcontractors.

He’s also a sovereign citizen, an anti-government extremist.

Subcontractors and others say it’s not a question of if, but when Thomas strikes again.

“He will take advantage of anything he can,” said.

Jeff Karr hired Thomas to build an add-on.

He says the contractor lied about being insured and wrote the city a hot check for the work permit.

There’s also the shoddy work.

We found problems with the design, foundation and brick work.

Plus Thomas’ workers framed the roof by re-using the same low-grade boards used to frame the concrete.

Now homeowners are scrambling to save their projects. Jeff’s desperate and here’s why.

He and his wife are in the process of adopting foster children.

Drivers feeling pinch at the pump

OKLAHOMA CITY – You felt it if you filled up your tank lately, the pinch at the pump as gas prices rise.

Lasheba Tucker does a lot of driving.

When she came to fill up her SUV Wednesday, she was shocked when she saw that gas skyrocketed 30 cents overnight.

Many drivers are outraged that they now have to pay close to $4 for one gallon of gas.

“We typically fill up once a week.” Tucker said. “At these prices, it’s going to be $80 a week, $160 every two weeks, that’s almost rent!”

It’s hard to pinpoint the reason for the hike.

Some blame it on higher crude oil prices, others said it’s because the Dow is doing well, or the dollar is gaining strength.
